Singapore Drift
2010
Drift is collaboration between Tristan Simmonds and Antony Gormley. It is a complex 39.6m x 14.6m x 23.1m bubble matrix sculpture of 16000 elements, weighing 16t and suspended in the atrium of the Marina Bay Sands complex in Singapore.
Based on a human scale sculpture by the same name, Tristan Simmonds created the geometry of Drift from a complex polyhedral matrix generated by the interactive digital packing of spheres around a body form.
Tristan Simmonds subsequently designed, engineered, produced fabrication data and oversaw the construction of this highly technical and ambitious work.
The sculpture was built precisely to design on time and on budget.
